Updated road and bridge information after the August 2026 flood, including the major Prithvi Highway failure at Krishnabhir.

Travel warning: Road status can change within hours. Check Department of Roads, Nepal Police and local authorities before departure.

Current Road Situation

The flood damaged major roads, bridges and mountain access routes in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and along the Trishuli corridor.

Prithvi Highway — Krishnabhir

Flood-related erosion caused a major section of the Prithvi Highway to collapse toward the Trishuli River. Reports described roughly 70 metres fully collapsed and about 120 metres severely cracked. By 4 September, the Department of Roads had started cutting a temporary bypass track above the damaged section.

Bridge Damage

Preliminary assessments reported extensive motorable and suspension-bridge damage. Bailey-bridge locations have been identified and international partners have pledged modular bridge support.

Kathmandu Supply Routes

The Krishnabhir closure disrupted a major supply corridor into Kathmandu, forcing fuel, goods and passenger traffic onto alternative routes.

Travel Safety

  • Check the route immediately before leaving.
  • Do not travel around barriers.
  • Avoid unnecessary night travel on affected mountain roads.
  • Never cross flooded road sections.
